New Windsor School embraces Facebook

For those of you who may be unaware, New Windsor School has embraced Facebook. Alongside our class blog pages, regular updates of activities around the school are also added to our school's Facebook page.  https://www.facebook.com/newwindsorsch/ Just this week we also have a new Facebook page to add - Te Whaanu Puawaitanga.  If you are interested to find out how our Bilingual unit supports their learners, here is the link to their page.  https://www.facebook.com/NWSTWP

Trust Games

As part of our Pink Shirt anti-bullying tasks we have played different trust games.  One involved working with a classmate to lift a crumpled piece of paper only with our index finger, and once mastered with our pinkie finger.  Our second game meant we had to stand toe to toe, with our wrists linked, and work together to sit down, stand up and lean back without falling over. Our last challenge was to stand in a big circle and hold 2 different people's hands across the circle, before working together to unwind our tangle, without letting go of each other's hands.  This was a lot harder, and needed far more talking and working together to do it. Our takeaway today was that we were using our Collaboration value, using team work to work together, as it was activities we couldn't do by ourselves.  It also meant we had to work with people we trust, and could rely on. And to try again, even if it didn't go to plan.

Welcome back to school! Weeks 1 & 2

We have an exciting first week of Term 2. The Science in a Van show came to New Windsor School. We learned about how we can use everyday objects for science experiments. We saw the Science in a Van scientists blow different kids of bubbles and toilet paper! In Week 2 we started Futsal coaching with Coach Grace. Futsal is indoor football. We learned to control the ball and pass to a partner using only our feet. We also played a really fun over and under game in teams.
