Christmas houses

Image
Our last days of school saw us being architects, builders, decorators and problem solvers. We were set with the task of building our own gingerbread houses, and learnt new skills in cardboard construction, especially using flaps and moulding to join our walls and roof. Here are our Christmas pimped houses.

Responsibility Spot

Since we have been back in class, we have read a number of books about being respectful and showing responsibility.  The last book we read was called the A Little Spot of Responsibility: a story of making good choices by Diane Alber.  After talking about the different ways we show that we are being responsible or helpful at home, we then thought about what we did at school that showed we are being responsible in our learning and working with other students in our school. From our ideas we chose some that we felt were specific to us, adding them to our own spots.  This is our final presentation, finished in time so that we could hang it in our new classroom for our last week together.

Frogs

Troy brought some of his frogs to school.  It took us some time to find them, as they can sit so still that we couldn't see them easily.  Once we saw them we were surprised at how they moved - they didn't jump but seemed to walk or crawl across the rocks they were on.  Troy told us what their names were and explained how he caught flies to feed them.  We couldn't imagine eating cockroaches, but he said that they are some of their favourite foods.

Grass Huts

We were keen to run around on the field and throw grass at each other, during our mask break. But once Whaea Lesley told us that when she was at primary they collected the grass cuttings and made houses, we decided to give it a go too.  All of us created our own rooms off a main room floor plan.  Wahidah, Mo'onia and Shael even decorated their "walls" with pohutukawa flowers, leaves and sticks.
