Chinese Zodiac Character challenge

Image
Have you accepted Miss Laxa's Chinese Zodiac challenge?  Here are some of the entries from our class.  Wahidah and Gwen have shared their dragon and horse drawings.   Remember it can be a drawing, or even a model that you make.  Have you got any ideas you could make using Lego, cardboard or even something recycled? Perhaps you could combine a range of materials like Meleane has done. Doesn't it look effective? Or even like Joshua, who used lego.

A week of Cultural experiences

As we head into our final week of Term 3, and hopefully our last week of Distance Lockdown learning, there is a lot happening in our community. Firstly it is Chinese Language Week. On our class Distance Learning page there are links to further pages to help us learn details and key phrases. By the end of the week, make sure you have tried Hello, How are you and Thank you.      The challenge for Chinese Language Week is for you to draw/create your Chinese Zodiac sign. Get this to Mrs Leung or Whaea Lesley by Friday. The best one will be forwarded to Miss Laxa, and she will post it to our Facebook page. The reward is 50 fale points and be the winner of our classroom for this challenge. But which is your Chinese Zodiac Animal? This interesting Ted Talk, may give you a clue, or at least an idea of how it all works. Laslty it is Tuvalu Language Week.  And we would love for you to learn the song Hands, Shoulders, Knees and Toes - and learn the Tuvaluan alphabet. Further links are on our

Authentic cuisine - Bon Apetit

Joshua and Caleb have been helping out in their family kitchen, learning how to make Chinese chicken and corn soup.  They followed their recipe to measure and mix ingredients ready for dinner.  It looks delicious. Wahidah has also been learning to cook Afghan food, and she told the class that this is one of her favourites. We're very intrigued to find out what flavours it had.

Joshua's fantastic scientific process: What will melt ice the fastest?

Image
One of the tasks we had this week was to experiment with hot and cold. Joshua followed the scientific process to record what he noticed in melting ice, and using different liquids and salt to melt the ice and find which made it melt fastest. Here are his results.  Superb job Joshua.

Experiments with Force and Motion

Image
As part of our exploration into Force and Motion, we have been making Marble Runs, Marble Mazes and Domino Chains. Cyrus created an effective chain of DVD cases and books, beginning his chain by rolling a ball towards it and also getting it to run around a corner. With the challenge on to experiment with a large run of dominoes, Joshua built a superbly complex design. He used a range of layered dominoes, a car race track and a small car to launch his chain. If you would like more information or to see what others have created and learnt, please scroll down to the padlets below and view our class work which is getting updated and added to most days.

Disconnect-Ed Fridays - What tasks will you choose?

Lockdown Marble Runs and Marble Mazes

Image
Our new challenge for Science and Technology is to work out what Force is used to make marbles move freely around Marble Mazes and Marble Runs. We need to find out about them first, then design and consider what materials we will use to make them. Finally we need to create them, and share what they look like and comment on how our design worked out.
