Food Floating density experiment

Joshua and Caleb made a number of predictions of what foods would or would not float in water. Joshua has also been able to explain what density is, and why the size or weight of the food is not an easy predictor as to if it will float or sink. Ka Rawe Joshua.

    A wonderful science activity. I like how clearly the results have been recorded. This type of hands on learning is really great. Ka pai!

As part of our exploration into Force and Motion, we have been making Marble Runs, Marble Mazes and Domino Chains. Cyrus created an effective chain of DVD cases and books, beginning his chain by rolling a ball towards it and also getting it to run around a corner. With the challenge on to experiment with a large run of dominoes, Joshua built a superbly complex design. He used a range of layered dominoes, a car race track and a small car to launch his chain. Our Summer Challenge poem - Writers Circle

 We've been given a challenge to write a summer poem, that uses only 3 of our senses, based on a picture of a boy mowing a lawn.  Stage 1 was to draw and then brainstorm some ideas for the sounds and smells we would have on a summer's day while lawns are being mown in the neighbourhood. Today's stage was to read the mentor's piece of writing, and look at the set out and language used. Using highlighters we located nouns, verbs and adjectives; talking about how they were used and what they do in a piece of writing. Our next stage is to write our own, and share with each other so that we can make it come alive for our readers.
